Dog friendly fun run, community event bring some bark to the park

Marine Corps Community Services invited authorized patrons to enjoy their annual “Paws in the Park” event, a day of fun with their families and pets at the Tarawa Terrace Community Center on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, June 1. The event featured an optional run followed by a dog-centric event for the family’s fuzzy friends.

“All of our fun runs are dog friendly but not everyone realizes that,” said Aimee Guareno, recreation specialist for Tarawa Terrace Community Center. “Sometimes dogs are left home all day. This is a good way to get out and get pets involved.”

Following the run, dogs were given a chance to compete in an agility contest. There were also dog friendly foods and medals for all finishers of the fun run, canine or human.

Patrons should note that banned breeds are not permitted at fun runs.
