Biggest prize eludes Marines as they lose to Army in title match

Some shiny medals were part of the items that returned with the All-Marine Wrestling Team from their trip to Fort Bliss, Texas.

The Marines competed in the 2019 Armed Forces Championship and took silver as the U.S. Army squad secured its 18th consecutive freestyle title with a 33-9 victory.

In freestyle against Army, Marine 2nd Lt. Jamel Johnson defeated Pvt. Hayden Tuma by technical fall, 11-0 at 65 kilograms to win gold. Marine 1st Lt. Peyton Walsh also won gold, beating Army Sgt. Vladyslav Dombrovskiy 9-8.

In the Greco-Roman competition, 11 Marines placed in the top two spots. As a team, the Marines defeated Navy 39-1 and snagged a 41-0 victory over Air Force.  Against Army, the Marines fell 32-10.
