From Staff Reports

The Naval Academy baseball team drop two of three games against the Air Force Academy in the annual Freedom Classic at Grainger Stadium in Kinston.

Navy (1-5) took the first game of the series on Friday night before a Saturday rainout. Air Force (4-3) swept a doubleheader on Sunday.

With the two victories, Air Force now leads the all-time series with Navy 28-25.

Navy 2, Air Force 1

During Friday’s opening game of the series, Navy senior pitcher Noah Song struck out 14, two shy of a career high, leading Navy to the victory. Song tossed six shutout innings, allowing the Midshipmen to pull off the 2-1 victory.

Ryan Duffey’s sacrifice fly drove in Christian Hodge in the first inning. Navy got its second run in the third inning when Jacob Williamson, a North Carolina native, walked, stole second and scored on an error.

Air Force 6, Navy 4

In Sunday’s first game, Air Force jumped on top, but Williamson, from Simms, hit a solo home run, cutting the Air Force lead to 4-3 in the third inning but could get no closer.

Jared Leins, a Raleigh native, started the game for Navy on the mound, allowing four runs on six hits in three innings.

Air Force 7, Navy 2

In Sunday’s second game, Air Force got off to a 7-0 lead in the first five innings. The Midshipmen got on the board in the seventh inning thanks to freshman Matt Wolff, who drove in Duffey with a double. Wolff scored on Liam Lowery’s fielder’s choice grounder.
