Tyler Wargo places fourth at the state championship

Richlands High School has never had a wrestler place at the state championships. Senior Tyler Wargo changed that in 2019 by finishing fourth in the 2A state championship at 160 pounds.

Wargo lost 5-3 in the third-place match against Foard’s A.J. Wingate.

The Richlands senior wrestler opened round one winning the match with a pin in 2:27 against Ledford’s Logan MacFarland. Wingate beat Wargo in the second round 13-2, but later lost to drop into the third-place match.

Meanwhile, Wargo wrestled back to beat Croatan’s Colton Sullivan 7-3, then pinned Lexington’s Nkosi Barnes in 4:26 and defeated Southwest Onslow’s Gaw Jones 5-2 to reach the third-place match.
