The Lejeune boys soccer team gather before their home game against Jacksonville Christian Academy, Aug. 31.

The Lejeune High School Devil Pups boys soccer squad continued their undefeated season by taking down Jacksonville Christian Academy 8-1 in a Thursday afternoon thriller at the Lejeune High School Athletic Stadium on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.   The goals kept on coming for the Devil Pups offense.

To start off the scoring, senior Aaron Pierce found the back of the next with an assist from freshman Robbie Morgan in the second minute of the game. Six minutes later, senior Kylen Jones scored creating the early 2-0 lead.  During the 10’ minute of the game, senior Logan Levell took a shot form 20 feet out putting his team up 3-0 with a second assist from Morgan. Five minutes later, freshman Korben Singletary scored the fourth goal and final goal of the first half after Jones took a kick deflecting off the opponent.

“Our kids are very young and only five of your starters are ninth grade and above,” said Paul Albaugh, JCA boys soccer head coach. “I am happy we scored a goal during the game. We have a young team but there is a lot of talent here with these guys.”

Jones and Pierce each notched a second goal in the second forty minutes of play. Freshman Peter Sullivan finished a play inside the JCA box making it 7-1.  Singletary ended the scoring rally with a last minute goal before the game ended.

“Scoring isn’t anything in this game and we look to play,” said Charles Teegarden, LHS head coach. “Playing in soccer is taking the ball up and down the field on offense and defense. Our offense was a little greedy with everyone wanting to score and I don’t want to play that kind of soccer. Not every game is going to be like this, we have tough competition ahead of us.”
