Colonel Russell C. Burton

Marine Corps Air Station New River Commanding Officer

Greetings MCAS New River Community,

A lot has occurred since the last time I wrote: Thanksgiving, CFTs, holiday parades, Tree Lightings, and Town Hall meetings have made the last month absolutely fly by. It’s been quite a whirlwind and I don’t see the pace letting up anytime soon. Stay tuned to the station Facebook page to see what else the Sergeant Major and I have been up to.

First, I’d ask that we all make an effort to take better care of the Station. The little things matter – not picking up after ourselves (see the picture of the trash SgtMaj and I picked up on the ramps at the skate park) or parking in non-designated areas means that we have to spend precious resources policing up the area or repairing sidewalks and utility repairs (see the other picture of the mud holes created by parking in the grass). There is ample parking capacity aboard the Station, but admittedly requires a short walk in some cases. Also, if you have a maintenance issue in your barracks or work spaces, get a work ticket submitted. I’m confident we can fix most issues, but even more confident we won’t fix anything we don’t know is broken.

Next, I’d like to extend my congratulations to the most recent selectees for promotion. Your selection says much about your past performance and what the Marine Corps expects of you in the future. You should be justifiably proud in the knowledge that only the best are selected in today’s hyper-competitive process. Thank you for your dedicated and selfless service and, again, congratulations.

Finally, I’d like to wish you and your families the very best this holiday season and sincerely thank you for everything you've done to make the New River Community so successful this past year. Please take advantage of the holiday season to connect with family and friends and come back safely, ready for the challenges of 2017.

Semper Fidelis,

Col. Burton
