The Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Service Center assists Marines and Sailors working with the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion and the Bell UH-1Y Venom on Marine Corps Air Station New River.
NATEC is a detachment from the Department of the Navy on the air station comprised of former aviation military members and contractors.
"NATEC’s mission is to provide technical service as required and needed ranging anywhere from avionics, airframes to engines," said Larry Scott, the New River NATEC engineering supervisor. "We have an elite group of people consisting of civil service personnel as well as contractors who provide a service to the Marines to help keep their systems up and running allowing their aircraft to be up and running."
Anyone in the aviation community on New River in need of NATEC services can put in an electronic local area request or send a naval message. NATEC also updates and clarifies maintenance manuals for the Marines in the aviation field occupation.
"I don’t want folks to be scared to call us because they think it’s failure on their part," said Scott Sublett, NATEC airframe technical representative and technical coordinator. "These are big aircraft and no one person knows all about it. We are here to speed up the maintenance processes; we are here to perform training and teach people the maintenance aspect of the aircraft and the different repair methods, making it easier for Marines coming through the pipeline."
