Q: How were you able to be so successful this season?

A: I think it’s the tradition that has developed over the years and kids buying in. The girls have adopted that, and the upperclassmen and seniors took it upon themselves to help the underclassmen.

Q: What is something you try to teach your student-athletes?

A: Soccer is fun. That’s the last thing I tell them before a game. It doesn’t have to be that serious. It’s just a game.

Q: Who were some of your favorite mentors or coaches growing up?

A: My great uncle. My dad. My college coach at Catawba got me my first high school coaching job at Salisbury High School. I’ve been around coaching my whole life.

Q: What is one of your favorite quotes?

A: Our team motto: “Believe in yourself, believe in each other and believe in your dreams.”

Q: What do you like to do when you aren’t coaching?

A: Play golf, cook and drink craft beers.

Q: If you weren’t coaching, what would be your dream job?

A: That’s a really good question. I’m still trying to figure that out since I’m a few years away from retiring.

Q: What subject do you teach at JHS?

A: World History & Life.

Q: What is your favorite part about being a coach at Jacksonville High School?

A: Developing relationships with the kids and seeing them grow up and be successful in their adult lives.

The JHS girls’ soccer team lost to East Chapel Hill High School 1-0 in the fourth round of the state playoffs on May 17. They ended their season with a record of 15-7-1.
