The third-seeded Dixon High School Bulldogs advanced to the second round of the Coastal 8 Conference tournament with a 61-41 victory over the Lejeune High School Devil Pups at Dixon High School in Holly Ridge, Feb. 19.

Dixon High’s Max Bailey scored a season-high 25 points to lead Dixon (14-11).

Malachi Borders led the way for the sixth-seeded Devil Pups (11-13) with 14 points.

Dixon took control in the first period, opening a 22-11 lead, and took a 33-20 advantage into halftime. Borders and Jarrod DeBose each had seven points to pace Lejeune in the first half. The Devil Pups narrowed the Dixon lead to 43-32 after three quarters, but the Bulldogs pulled away in the fourth quarter to get the victory.

Dixon is next scheduled to play seventh-seeded Trask at 6 p.m. Thursday in the semifinals at Richlands High School.

The Devil Pups will have to wait to see if they make the state playoffs. The playoff brackets are scheduled to be released on Saturday.
