Lejeune High School’s Desmond Johnson signed his letter of intent to play football at Campbell University during a ceremony Thursday night at the Lejeune High School gym on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune.
“It feels great to be signing Campbell University and they welcomed me with open arms,” Johnson said. “I am ready to start this new chapter in my academic and athletic career.”
He becomes the second Lejeune High football player to sign with a college football team this year. Matthew Peterman signed with Alma College back in early February.
Johnson chose Campbell University over Augustana College, Chowan College and the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.
Johnson’s assistant coach Brett Becklund couldn’t be more proud of his senior football player.
“It is fantastic that Desmond signed with Campbell University,” Becklund said. “He put in the work to get to that level.”
