On Saturday, June 1, over 140 people kayaked and paddleboarded in the 12th annual Kayak for the Warriors race which moved through Bogue Sound and the Pine Knoll Shores canals. Ray Moore earned the winning-time by completing the 3.2-mile course in 31 minutes, 51 seconds. The winning team was the “Old Guyz” who brought in over $2,000 in sponsored funds for Hope for the Warriors, a national nonprofit that was founded in 2006 on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune and is dedicated to serving veterans, service members and military families.

Since 2008, Kayak for the Warriors has raised over $515,000 to benefit Hope for the Warriors and its programs which focus on clinical health and wellness, sports and recreation and transition. Other programs include A Warrior’s Wish and Run for the Warriors.
